Martin and Becky Salinas UTSA’s Savvy ‘Super Fans’

Becky and Martin Salinas are truly "super fans" of UTSA.

Whether serving on advisory boards, gathering for Roadrunner athletic events, or sharing their own personal wealth, Martin and Rebecca “Becky” Salinas truly are “super fans” of UTSA.

Life members of the Alumni Association, Martin, ’94, and Becky, ’00, MA ’11, co-principals of MBS Real Estate, have funded annual scholarships, endowed an accounting fellowship and have given to UTSA Athletics to help student athletes.

In addition to their generous philanthropy, Becky, a former teacher, serves on the Alumni Association Board and the College of Education and Human Development Advisory Council, while Martin is a member of the College of Business Advisory Council, vice president of the Roadrunner Foundation, and a member of the UTSA Development Board. “I give thanks to UTSA for giving me the foundation to succeed,” said Martin, who was named the Outstanding Accounting Alumnus in 2014. “I’m honored to give back time, effort and financing to keep bettering the school.”

Toward that end, the Salinas family has established the Angie Martinez Memorial Scholarship in education to honor Becky’s mother and the Jesus Rodriguez and Lorenzo Salinas Scholarship in business in memory of Martin’s grandfathers, who migrated from Mexico years ago to create a better life for their families.

Martin later upgraded his grandfathers’ scholarship to an endowed fellowship with a gift of stock. As an accountant, this savvy alumnus knew that by giving appreciated securities he and Becky could provide a generous gift to UTSA while also maximizing their tax benefits.

“When Becky and I talked about how we could give a little more without impacting our current finances, we saw that giving a stock gift would accomplish that. And when we worked with UTSA staff to accomplish this, it was a very seamless process.”

Through thoughtful planning and a passion for helping others, Martin and Becky Salinas are making a real difference at UTSA. If you, too, are looking for ways to support the university, consider a gift of appreciated securities. No matter how large or small, such a gift can be beneficial both to you and to UTSA.
