Scholarships
Most scholarship funds are made possible by the generosity of donors. Scholarships may be annual or endowed. An annual scholarship is offered on a year-to-year basis, depending on the renewal of donor support or the availability of funding. Endowed scholarships are created when the initial gift is invested by the university and only a percentage of the fund is used each year to ensure the scholarship is available for generations to come.
Scholarships are an important lifeline for many students because, unlike loans, the funds do not have to be repaid by the recipient. Scholarship criteria vary. Generally, scholarships are reserved for students with special qualifications, such as academic, athletic, leadership or artistic talents. Many scholarships are created to honor someone special.
