Creating New Knowledge
Innovative research for a new approach to medical treatment
“Visionary philanthropy,” is how Dr. John McCarrey describes the ongoing support of the Robert J. Kleberg Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation. The recently appointed Robert and Helen Kleberg Distinguished Chair in Cellular and Molecular Biology, McCarrey says the dedication and generous support of the Kleberg Foundation makes a major difference for his team’s ability to uncover new knowledge about stem cells.
“This is a very exciting time—this gift allows us to do so many things we wouldn’t otherwise be able to do.”
Dr. McCarrey is overseeing stem cell research at UTSA, an area that is steadily gaining momentum and one with the potential to put San Antonio at the forefront of medical research. With the most recent $1 million gift from the Robert J. Kleberg Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation, he and his team will begin exploring new approaches to medical treatment through regenerative medicine.
“This is a cell-based approach, designed to restore function by replacing the bad cells with good cells. There’s a lot of work to be done, but with our team’s hard work and the support of our donors, we’re hoping to make a difference in so many lives,” says John McCarrey.
Give now For every new discovery in labs like Dr. McCarrey, there is new hope for making a difference in so many lives.
