Providing Access to Excellence
True love for learning and teaching
“UTSA has given me a new trajectory in life,” shares graduate student Eli Embleton. A former entrepreneur from Chico, California, Eli and his family relocated to San Antonio in 2008 after facing hard economic times. Shortly thereafter, he began taking courses at UTSA.
With scholarships supported by Carlos and Malu Alvarez, Eli recently completed his undergraduate degree with honors, and is now a student in the Executive MBA program. “Funding from the Alvarez family helped me go forth in pursuing my passion, which is leadership in education. I am beyond grateful for their generosity.”
In addition to scholarships, the Alvarez Special Opportunities Fund supported Eli’s recent trip to the University of Wisconsin to present his thesis “Leadership in the Ancient World,” which will now be offered as a course at UTSA. Eli will continue to develop his thesis in the upcoming book Leadership in the Ancient World with Dr. Joel Christensen, his thesis advisor and fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies at Harvard.
“I have a true love for learning, and I am excited about continuing to grow and share in knowledge,” Eli says.
