Joey Mukherjee Endowed Scholarship for CS Majors Who Don't Run Good
Dear Friends:
Last fall I set up this scholarship because I was a computer science major at UTSA in the early 1990’s, but my family’s history with UTSA (and the UT system) goes back even further.
My mother, Kohinoor Mukherjee, was at UTSA from 1976 to 1996. She started as an assistant in a lab in the biology department and eventually retired as the Foreign Student Advisor. My father, Dr. Asit K. Mukherjee, was at the UT Health Science Center for many years and eventually left in 1990. My brother, Babul Mukherjee, was involved with the UTSA Pre-Engineering Program (PREP) in the early years. Needless to say, the Mukherjee family owes a great deal to UTSA and is more than happy to give back to upcoming scholars.
This scholarship aims to help the normally non-athletic computer science major get into a sport that takes virtually anybody. You need neither a team to run with, nor expensive equipment. All that is needed is the ability to run or walk 3.1 miles at one time in under an hour and a half, or whatever time limit the course requires.
I was never a fast runner, finishing most marathons between five and six hours, but having the goal was the best part of the journey. I hope you will join me in helping other UTSA computer science majors find the joy of exercise through running by contributing to this endowed scholarship. Because it’s endowed, it will be awarded every single year in perpetuity once the $25,000 minimum is reached. All contributions up to $5,000 to this scholarship will be matched so UTSA can start awarding it even sooner.
Thank you for your support,
Joey
