Andrew Baines
bringing childhood dreams to life through engineering

For as long as he can remember, Andrew Baines has been inspired by cars. As a child he played with building blocks, and those early designs launched his dreams of becoming a mechanical engineer. He says, “Hopefully you will see my car out there soon.”

“I never would have thought I would have had so many opportunities in college. Working in the research lab for my department has opened so many different doors for me. ... The scholarships especially help out a lot and motivate me to want to do even more.”

He feels confident about his future thanks to the exceptional opportunities and scholarship support from UTSA. Andrew serves as an ambassador for the College of Engineering, representing UTSA in the community and encouraging other young people to consider engineering studies. “I’m proud of where the university is right now and the direction it is going.” He has experience to share thanks to his work in Dr. Harry Millwater’s research lab. As an undergraduate, he is a key member of the research team, assisting with computational structural analysis.

“I never would have thought I would have had so many opportunities in college. Working in the research lab for my department has opened so many different doors for me,” he says. “I’ve met so many faculty members, and once you work with the faculty, they want to help you. The scholarships especially help out a lot and motivate me to want to do even more.”
